Trailers 101

Trailers 101

Trailers 101 - One of the most common questions is what the best trailer is. There is no definitive answer, and they all have strengths and weaknesses

High Attachment Point - The Rambo attachment is one of the most common attachment mechanisms. This attachment is commonly used on both the Rambo 2 wheel and Hawk Crawler 4-wheel trailer

  • Strengths - It gives you the ability to easily use the cart off the bike as a 2-wheel game cart. Gives you a dual-purpose way to retrieve an animal.
  • Weaknesses - The high attachment point is less stable than a low attachment.

Low Attachment Point - Low attachment point trailers typically attach similar to a child hauler type trailer and attach on the left side of the bike near the axle. These trailers are sold by Compass Carts, Bakcou and Quiet Kat.

  • Strengths - More stable with the weight distributed lower on the bike and over the trailer tires.
  • Weaknesses - Adds weight directly to the axle. Not recommended for quick release rear axles.

Single Wheel - Based off of the “Bob” trailer. These single wheel trailers attach on both sides of the rear axle.

  • Strengths - Tracks directly behind the bike so it works great on narrow trails
  • Weaknesses - Can’t handle as much weight and can be unstable. Weight is not distributed over the trailer tire and is essentially directly on the rear axle.  This can actually force a rear drop axle completely off the bike with a heavy load.

TOP 2 Choices for hauling Deer and heavy bait/mineral

For most hunters the main consideration is what trailer works best for a heavy load. The Compass Cart combines a low attachment point with a heavy-duty design and plugs right into your receiver hitch for transport. The Compass cart is also the only cart that doubles as your receiver hitch bike hauler. The Hawk Crawler has the stability of 4 wheels but needs to be modified and has a less stable high attachment point.

1) Compass Cart

2) Modified Hawk Crawler

TOP 2 Choices for light duty - run and gun Turkey hunting

If you are looking to haul weights under 50 lbs the single wheel trailer is great for that type of application. It tracks directly behind the bike so you can navigate tight trails and grass with ease. Ideal for Turkey hunting where you only need to haul a blind and decoys. The second choice would be the Rambo cart. The Rambo cart is capable of hauling a deer but is somewhat unstable depending how the weight is loaded. It is however another good option for Turkey hunting with its quick disconnect and versatility as a hand cart

FaceOff Ebikes does not sell trailers, but we have designed the bikes to work with all the Trailer options on the market. The New Arrowhead rack and LWCG Pack Rack are specifically designed to integrate with the Rambo attachment. The Switchback and Hunter lineup also have integrated attachment points on the frame near the axle. These threaded attachments, work with low attachment point and single wheel trailers options. Having the low attachment point on the frame eliminates the risk of bending your axle.

Whether you are looking to haul heavy weight or lighter/awkward blinds and decoys. An ebike is a great way to more efficiently transport equipment and game. Picking the right trailer for your specific application is a critical choice. With so many options it can be difficult to sort through the noise. As the Industry leader in hunting ebike design. We can help you match the best ebike and trailer to fit your needs so you can fill more tags this season. Good luck and we look forward to seeing those harvest pictures!
