Hill Climbing Comparison

Climbing Rating - All our models are designed to out climb the vast majority of ebikes on the market. With custom fabricated cogs, hubs and firmware designed for throttle only climbing. You can tackle terrain that other bikes can't handle

One of the most common questions we get is to compare how different bikes on the market perform in steep terrain. How a bike climbs is a combination of total watts, torque and the gear ratio combination of the front chainring and rear cog

10- The best gear ratios on the market. We have customers climbing over 2000' of elevation with no peddling. Best suited for extreme steep terrain and heavier riders (Switchback MTM Berg, Switchback Berg and Switchback MTM)

9- Excellent climbing. Better than 99% of bikes on the market (Switchback Beast)

8- Very good climbing ability. Our original single speeds fall into this category. Those bikes are featured in videos climbing ski hills with no peddling. (Switchback K2, Switchback STX, Hunter and Hunter STR)

7- Many of the better climbing bikes from our competitors fall in this category. 1000w mid-drives with 9 speed derailleurs

6- True 1000w dual hub motor bikes. Many companies advertise Peak Watts. Awesome for a wide range of terrain but if your priority is climbing. You want a mid-drive (Switchback Double Barrel)

5- The vast majority of 1000w mid-drive bikes fall into this category. Really not geared that great for climbing with 7 speed derailleurs. These are the bikes most prone to breaking chains because there is so much stress put on the chain by the high gear ratio

4- 750w 120nm mid-drive bikes

3- 1000w rear hub bikes

2- 750w rear hub bikes

1- 500w rear hub bikes
